gdb expects that the thread ID for c and g-class operations is set to
the CPU we provide when reporting VM stop conditions. If the stub is
still tuned to a different CPU, the wrong information is delivered to
the gdb frontend.

All callsites to this function navigate the cpu->env_ptr only for the
function to take the env ptr back to the original cpu ptr. Change the
function to just pass in the CPU pointer instead. Removes a core code
usage of ENV_GET_CPU() (in gdbstub.c).

All of the core-code usages of this API have the cpu pointer handy so
pass it in. There are only 3 architecture specific usages (2 of which
are commented out) which can just use ENV_GET_CPU() locally to get the
cpu pointer. The reduces core code usage of the CPU env, which brings
us closer to common-obj'ing these core files.

Remove semihosting_enabled and semihosting_target and replace them with
SemihostingConfig structure containing equivalent fields. The structure
is defined in vl.c where it is actually set.
Also introduce separate header file include/exec/semihost.h allowing to
access semihosting config related stuff from target specific semihosting
code.

With this patch QEMU handles qAttached request from gdb. When QEMU
replies 1, GDB sends a "detach" command at the end of a debugging
session otherwise GDB sends "kill".
The default value for qAttached is 1 on system emulation and 0 on user
emulation.

The usual semihosting behaviour is to process the system calls locally and
return; unfortuantelly the initial implementation dinamically changed the
target to GDB during debug sessions, which, for the usual arm-none-eabi-gdb,
is not implemented. The result was that during debug sessions the semihosting
calls were discarded.
This patch adds a configuration variable and an option to set it on the
command line:
-semihosting-config [enable=on|off,]target=native|gdb|auto
This option enables semihosting and defines where the semihosting calls will
be addressed, to QEMU ('native') or to GDB ('gdb'). The default is auto, which
means 'gdb' during debug sessions and 'native' otherwise.

While using qemu with gdb "target remote" to debug an application that uses
fork and exec, the qemu process receives SIGSTOP every time the forked process
terminates (sending SIGCHLD).
This is caused by a missing call to gdb_signal_to_target in gdbstub.c, which
is fixed by this patch:

GDB assumes that watchpoint set via the gdbstub remote protocol will
behave in the same way as hardware watchpoints for the target. In
particular, whether the CPU stops with the PC before or after the insn
which triggers the watchpoint is target dependent. Allow guest CPU
code to specify which behaviour to use. This fixes a bug where with
guest CPUs which stop before the accessing insn GDB would manually
step forward over what it thought was the insn and end up one insn
further forward than it should be.
We set this flag for the CPU architectures which set
gdbarch_have_nonsteppable_watchpoint in gdb 7.7:
ARM, CRIS, LM32, MIPS and Xtensa.

This patch initializes monitor for gdbstub with the qemu_chr_alloc function
instead of just allocating the memory. Initialization function call
is required, because it also creates chr_write_lock mutex, which is used
when writing to this character device.

After reporting the GUEST_PANICKED monitor event, QEMU stops the VM.
The reason for this is that events are edge-triggered, and can be lost if
management dies at the wrong time. Stopping a panicked VM lets management
know of a panic even if it has crashed; management can learn about the
panic when it restarts and queries running QEMU processes. The downside
is of course that the VM will be paused while management is not running,
but that is acceptable if it only happens with explicit "-device pvpanic".
Upon learning of a panic, management (if configured to do so) can pick a
variety of behaviors: leave the VM paused, reset it, destroy it. In
addition to all of these behaviors, it is possible to dump the VM core
from the host.
However, right now, the panicked state is irreversible, and can only be
exited by resetting the machine. This means that any policy decision
is entirely in the hands of the host. In particular there is no way to
use the "reboot on panic" option together with pvpanic.
This patch makes the panicked state reversible (and removes various
workarounds that were there because of the state being irreversible).
With this change, management has a wider set of possible policies: it
can just log the crash and leave policy to the guest, it can leave the
VM paused. In particular, the "log the crash and continue" is implemented
simply by sending a "cont" as soon as management learns about the panic.
Management could also implement the "irreversible paused state" itself.
And again, all such actions can be coupled with dumping the VM core.
Unfortunately we cannot change the behavior of 1.6.0. Thus, even if
it uses "-device pvpanic", management should check for "cont" failures.
If "cont" fails, management can then log that the VM remained paused
and urge the administrator to update QEMU.

SO_REUSEADDR should be avoided on Windows but is desired on other operating
systems. So instead of setting it we call socket_set_fast_reuse that will result
in the appropriate behaviour on all operating systems.

Commit a0e372f0c4 reorganized the register
counting for GDB. While it seems correct not to let the total number of
registers skyrocket in an SMP scenario through a static variable, the
distinction between total register count and 'g' packet register count
(last_reg vs. num_g_regs) got lost among the way.
Fix this by introducing CPUState::gdb_num_g_regs and using that in
gdb_handle_packet().

This avoids polluting the global namespace with a non-prefixed macro and
makes it obvious in the call sites that we return.
Semi-automatic conversion using, e.g.,

CPUState::gdb_num_regs replaces num_g_regs.
CPUClass::gdb_num_core_regs replaces NUM_CORE_REGS.
Allows building gdb_register_coprocessor() for xtensa, too.
As a side effect this should fix coprocessor register numbering for SMP.

Make inline target_memory_rw_debug() always available and change its
argument to CPUState. Let it check if CPUClass::memory_rw_debug provides

While in general we forbid a "continue" from the guest panicked
state, it makes sense to have an exception for that when continuing
in the debugger. Perhaps the guest entered that state due to a bug,
for example, and we want to continue no matter what.

This commit used the wrong check to prevent an assertion failure.
After this commit, you need to start a guest in the monitor, you
cannot use anymore the "c" command in the debugger. This is
undesirable. The commit's aim was to prevent a restart
after a KVM internal error or something like that; use
runstate_needs_reset() for that.

Many of these should be cleaned up with proper qdev-/QOM-ification.
Right now there are many catch-all headers in include/hw/ARCH depending
on cpu.h, and this makes it necessary to compile these files per-target.
However, fixing this does not belong in these patches.

chardev-frontends need to explictly check, increase and decrement the
avail_connections "property" of the chardev when they are not using a
qdev-chardev-property for the chardev.
This fixes things like:
qemu-kvm -chardev stdio,id=foo -device isa-serial,chardev=foo \
-mon chardev=foo
Working, where they should fail. Most of the changes here are due to
old hardware emulation code which is using serial_hds directly rather then
a qdev-chardev-property.

Note that target-alpha accesses this field from TCG, now using a
negative offset. Therefore the field is placed last in CPUState.

The real gdb protocol doesn't split out pc or cc as real registers.
Those are pseudos that are extracted as needed from the PSW. Don't
modify env->cc_op during read -- that way lies heisenbugs.
Fill in the XXX for the fp registers.
Remove duplicated defines in cpu.h.

We have to use different type to access float values when
USE_SOFTFLOAT_STRUCT_TYPES is defined.
Rework SH4 version of cpu_gdb_{read,write}_register() using
a single case, and fixing the coding style. Use ldll_p() and
stfl_p() to access float values.

Synchronize the CPU state via cpu_sychronize_state() unconditionally
in gdb_set_cpu_pc() rather than only in some of the target ifdef
ladder cases.
We can divide the CPUs into three categories:
* non-KVM targets: no change of behaviour since we will use the
kvm-stub.c no-op function.
* i386 and s390: no change of behaviour since they were already
calling this function
* PPC (in KVM mode): this fixes an error: failing to synchronise
was accidental and probably a bug.
This also paves the way for other targets (specifically ARM) which
can add KVM support in future without having to add another target
specific change to this bit of code.

Fix an issue where the GDB server implementation was sending GDB syscall
requests while the system CPU was still running. Syscall requests must
be sent while the CPU is stopped otherwise replies from the GDB client
might get dropped and the GDB server might be incorrectly transitioned
into a 'RUN_STATE_PAUSED' state.

Too many VM kittens were killed since 7d03f82f81. Another one just died
under my fat fingers.
When you quit a kgdb session, does the Linux kernel power off? Or when
you terminate gdb attached to a hardware debugger, does your board
vanish in space? No.
So let's stop terminating QEMU when the gdbstub receives a kill commando
in system emulation mode. Real termination can still be achieved via
"monitor quit". We keep the behavior for user mode emulation which is
arguably more like a gdbserver scenario.

This allows a more efficient representation for 64-bit hosts.
It should be about the same for 32-bit hosts, as we can still

Next commit will convert the query-status command to use the
RunState type as generated by the QAPI.
In order to "transparently" replace the current enum by the QAPI
one, we have to make some changes to some enum values.
As the changes are simple renames, I'll do them in one shot. The
changes are:

Today, when notifying a VM state change with vm_state_notify(),
we pass a VMSTOP macro as the 'reason' argument. This is not ideal
because the VMSTOP macros tell why qemu stopped and not exactly
what the current VM state is.
One example to demonstrate this problem is that vm_start() calls
vm_state_notify() with reason=0, which turns out to be VMSTOP_USER.
This commit fixes that by replacing the VMSTOP macros with a proper
state type called RunState.

Gdb expects all registers windows to be flushed in ram, which is not the case
in Qemu. Therefore the back-trace generation doesn't work. This patch adds a
function to handle reads (and only read) in stack frames as if windows were
flushed.

Specific xtensa processor overlay for GDB contains register map in
the gdb/xtensa-config.c. This description is used by the GDB to e.g.
parse 'g' response packets and it may be reused in the qemu's gdbstub
(only XTREG definitions for non-pseudoregisters are needed).
Currently mainline GDB does not support operations with privileged SRs
(see http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2011-07/msg00075.html). This support
may be enabled, see NUM_CORE_REGS comment in the gdbstub.c

We have successfully lazilized cc computation, so we need to manually
trigger its calculation when gdb wants to fetch it. We also changed the
variable name, so writing it writes into a different field now.

When the VM goes into stop state while there is a gdb frontend attached,
it makes sense to inform gdb about this fact and at least a bit about
the stop reason. Basically, all stops are interesting except for the
temporary VMSTOP_SAVE/LOADVM.
The patch maps the relevant VMSTOP reasons on unique and more or less
associatable signals that gdb understands.

Define and use dedicated constants for vm_stop reasons, they actually
have nothing to do with the EXCP_* defines used so far. At this chance,
specify more detailed reasons so that VM state change handlers can
evaluate them.

Recalculate Sparc64 CPU flags on interrupts, otherwise some earlier
flags could be stored to pstate.
Refactor PSR/CCR/CWP handling: concentrate the actual
functions to op_helper.c.

With this patch, 'gdb detach' correctly resumes the inferior execution
after detaching the debugger.
The bug was caused by qemu asking gdb to execute a syscall (isatty)
after the detach, and then waiting (forever) for the reply. I fixed this
by properly setting gdb_syscall_mode appropriately in the 'detach'
packet handling, so subsequent syscalls are solved by qemu rather than gdb.

Attached is a patch to fix a typo in 'P' packet processing for M68K.
Without this patch, QEMU fails to honor GDB's P packets from GDB
(writing to registers) for the address registers (A0 - A7).
The problem is because of an obvious typo. Notice that the second
"if" condition is meant to be n < 16 in:

In order to debug funny kernel breakages it's always good to have a working
gdb stub around.
While Uli's patches don't include one one, I needed one that's at least good
enough for 'bt' and some variable examinations during early bootup.
So here it is - the absolute basics to get the qemu gdb stub running with s390x
targets.

Commit 56aebc8916 changed gdbstub in way
that debugging 32 or 16-bit guest code is no longer possible with qemu
for x86_64 guest CPUs. Since that commit, qemu only provides registers
sets for 64-bit, forcing current and foreseeable gdb to also switch its
architecture to 64-bit. And this breaks if the inferior is 32 or 16 bit.
No question, this is a gdb issue. But, as it was confirmed in several
discusssions with gdb people, it is a non-trivial thing to fix. So until
qemu finds a gdb version attach with a rework x86 support, we have to
work around it by switching the register layout as the guest switches
its execution mode between 16/32 and 64 bit.

cpu_synchronize_state() is a little unreadable since the 'modified'
argument isn't self-explanatory. Simplify it by making it always
synchronize the kernel state into qemu, and automatically flush the
registers back to the kernel if they've been synchronized on this
exit.

This allows to set segment registers via gdb also in system emulation
mode. Basic sanity checks are applied and nothing is changed if they
fail. But screwing up the target via this interface will never be
complicated, so I avoided being too paranoid here.

This patch adds support for the vCont remote gdb command. It is used by
gdb 6.8 or better to switch the debugging focus for single-stepping
multi-threaded targets, ie. multi-threaded application in user mode
emulation or VCPUs in system emulation.

When debugging multi-threaded programs, QEMU's gdb stub would report the
correct number of threads (the qfThreadInfo and qsThreadInfo packets).
However, the stub was unable to actually switch between threads (the T
packet), since it would report every thread except the first as being
dead. Furthermore, the stub relied upon cpu_index as a reliable means
of assigning IDs to the threads. This was a bad idea; if you have this
sequence of events:
initial thread created
new thread #1
new thread #2
thread #1 exits
new thread #3
thread #3 will have the same cpu_index as thread #1, which would confuse
GDB. (This problem is partly due to the remote protocol not having a
good way to send thread creation/destruction events.)
We fix this by using the host thread ID for the identifier passed to GDB
when debugging a multi-threaded userspace program. The thread ID might
wrap, but the same sort of problems with wrapping thread IDs would come
up with debugging programs natively, so this doesn't represent a
problem.

Introduce a more canonical gdbstub configuration (system emulation only)
via the new switch '-gdb dev'. Keep '-s' as shorthand for
'-gdb tcp::1234'. Use the same syntax also for the corresponding monitor
command 'gdbserver'. Its default remains to listen on TCP port 1234.

This is a backport of the guest debugging support for the KVM
accelerator that is now part of the KVM tree. It implements the reworked
KVM kernel API for guest debugging (KVM_CAP_SET_GUEST_DEBUG) which is
not yet part of any mainline kernel but will probably be 2.6.30 stuff.
So far supported is x86, but PPC is expected to catch up soon.
Core features are:
- unlimited soft-breakpoints via code patching
- hardware-assisted x86 breakpoints and watchpoints
Changes in this version:
- use generic hook cpu_synchronize_state to transfer registers between
user space and kvm
- push kvm_sw_breakpoints into KVMState

Create a monitor terminal and pass it through the gdbstub. This allows
to use gdb's monitor command to access the QEMU monitor. Works for all
commands except for non-detached migration and password retrieval (user
will receive error messages instead).

Define GDB_CORE_XML and hack things similarly to ARM so that despite the
FP registers coming in between the GPRs and some status registers,
everything works out OK no matter which kind of GDB we're communicating
with.
It matters whether we're built to target 64-bit or 32-bit cores. I
think there are still problems if we are debugging 32-bit programs on a
built-for-64-bit QEMU (QEMU will always send 64-bit registers), but I
don't know if there's a good way around that at the time being.

Handle signals in the user-mode GDB stub. Report them to GDB, and
allow it to change or cancel them. Also correct the protocol numbering;
it happens to match Linux numbering for SIGINT and SIGTRAP, but that's
just good fortune.

This patch enhances QEMU's built-in debugger for SMP guest debugging.
Using the thread support of the gdb remote protocol, each VCPU is mapped
on a pseudo thread and exposed to the gdb frontend. This way you can
easy switch the focus of gdb between the VCPUs and observe their states.
On breakpoint hit, the focus is automatically adjusted just as for
normal multi-threaded application under gdb control.
Furthermore, the patch propagates breakpoint and watchpoint insertions
or removals to all CPUs, not just the current one as it was the case so
far. Without this, SMP guest debugging was practically unfeasible.

This patch prepares the QEMU cpu_watchpoint/breakpoint API to allow the
succeeding enhancements this series comes with.
First of all, it overcomes MAX_BREAKPOINTS/MAX_WATCHPOINTS by switching
to dynamically allocated data structures that are kept in linked lists.
This also allows to return a stable reference to the related objects,
required for later introduced x86 debug register support.
Breakpoints and watchpoints are stored with their full information set
and an additional flag field that makes them easily extensible for use
beyond pure guest debugging.

This patch makes qemu keep track of the character devices in use and
implements a "info chardev" monitor command to print a list.
qemu_chr_open() sticks the devices into a linked list now. It got a new
argument (label), so there is a name for each device. It also assigns a
filename to each character device. By default it just copyes the
filename passed in. Individual drivers can fill in something else
though. qemu_chr_open_pty() sets the filename to name of the pseudo tty
allocated.
Output looks like this:

The IO index is now stored in its own field, instead of being wedged
into the vaddr field. This eliminates the ROMD and watchpoint host
pointer weirdness. The IO index space is expanded by 1 bit, and
several additional bits are made available in the TLB vaddr field.

Implement the 'k' gdbserial packet which kills the qemu instance via
the debugger stub.
Implement the 'D' detach packet for the gdb stub such that you can
disconnect gdb with the "detach" command. This required implementing
a cpu_breakpoint_remove_all() and a cpu_watchpoint_remove_all()
function to cleanup all the breakpoints and watchpoints prior to
leaving the gdb stub else simulation can stop with no debugger
attached.
On a '?' packet remove all the breakpoints and watchpoints. This is
considered more of a safety net in case you force killed gdb or it
crashed and you are reconnecting. The identical behavior exists for
kgdb in the linux kernel.
