When the x-blockdev-reopen was added it allowed reconfiguring the
graph by replacing backing files, but changing the 'file' option was
forbidden. Because of this restriction some operations are not
possible, notably inserting and removing block filters.
This patch adds support for replacing the 'file' option. This is
similar to replacing the backing file and the user is likewise
responsible for the correctness of the resulting graph, otherwise this
can lead to data corruption.

Move supports_backing check of bdrv_reopen_parse_backing to called
(through bdrv_set_backing_noperm()) bdrv_set_file_or_backing_noperm()
function. The check applies to general case, so it's appropriate for
bdrv_set_file_or_backing_noperm().
We have to declare backing support for two test drivers, otherwise new
check fails.

When creating an image file with a backing file, we generally try to
open the backing file (unless -u was specified), mostly to verify that
it is there, but also to get the file size if none was specified for the
new image.
For neither of these things do we need data I/O, and so we can pass
BDRV_O_NO_IO when opening the backing file. This allows us to open even
encrypted backing images without requiring the user to provide a secret.
This makes the -u switch in iotests 189 and 198 unnecessary (and the
$size parameter), so drop it, because this way we get regression tests
for this patch here.

Really it's only TCG that can select which GIC model you want, KVM
guests should always be using the "host" version of the GIC for which
QEMU already provides a handy shortcut. Make the KVM test use this and
split the TCG test into it's two versions.

meson.build already decides whether it is possible to build the TLS
test suite. There is no need to include that in the source as well.
The dummy tests in fact are broken because they do not produce valid
TAP output (empty output is rejected by scripts/tap-driver.pl).

The I/O sampling rate range is enforced to 5000 to 45000HZ according to
commit a2cd86a9. Setting I/O sampling rate with command 41h/42h, a guest
user can break this assumption and trigger an assertion in audio_calloc
via command 0xd4. This patch restricts the I/O sampling rate range for
command 41h/42h.

Add libffi as a build requirement for TCI.
Add libffi to the dockerfiles to satisfy that requirement.
Construct an ffi_cif structure for each unique typemask.
Record the result in a separate hash table for later lookup;
this allows helper_table to stay const.

If we want to wake up a coroutine from a worker thread, aio_co_wake()
currently does not work. In that scenario, aio_co_wake() calls
aio_co_enter(), but there is no current AioContext and therefore
qemu_get_current_aio_context() returns the main thread. aio_co_wake()
then attempts to call aio_context_acquire() instead of going through
aio_co_schedule().
The default case of qemu_get_current_aio_context() was added to cover
synchronous I/O started from the vCPU thread, but the main and vCPU
threads are quite different. The main thread is an I/O thread itself,
only running a more complicated event loop; the vCPU thread instead
is essentially a worker thread that occasionally calls
qemu_mutex_lock_iothread(). It is only in those critical sections
that it acts as if it were the home thread of the main AioContext.
Therefore, this patch detaches qemu_get_current_aio_context() from
iothreads, which is a useless complication. The AioContext pointer
is stored directly in the thread-local variable, including for the
main loop. Worker threads (including vCPU threads) optionally behave
as temporary home threads if they have taken the big QEMU lock,
but if that is not the case they will always schedule coroutines
on remote threads via aio_co_schedule().
With this change, the stub qemu_mutex_iothread_locked() must be changed
from true to false. The previous value of true was needed because the
main thread did not have an AioContext in the thread-local variable,
but now it does have one.

While the SB16 seems to work up to 48000 Hz, the "Sound Blaster Series
Hardware Programming Guide" limit the sampling range from 4000 Hz to
44100 Hz (Section 3-9, 3-10: Digitized Sound I/O Programming, tables
3-2 and 3-3).
Later, section 6-15 (DSP Commands) is more specific regarding the 41h /
42h registers (Set digitized sound output sampling rate):
Valid sampling rates range from 5000 to 45000 Hz inclusive.
There is no comment regarding error handling if the register is filled
with an out-of-range value. (See also section 3-28 "8-bit or 16-bit
Auto-initialize Transfer"). Assume limits are enforced in hardware.

If you configure the host compiler with a multi-command stanza like:
--cc="ccache gcc"
then the configure.sh machinery falls over with confusion. Work around
this by ensuring we correctly quote so where we need a complete
evaluation we get it. Of course the has() check needs single variable
so we need to unquote that. This does mean it essentially checks that
just the ccache command exits but if we got past that step we still
check the compiler actually does something.

This adds a simple signal test that combines the POSIX timer_create
with signal delivery across multiple threads. The aim is to provide a
bit more of a stress test to flush out signal handling issues for
easily than the occasional random crash we sometimes see in linux-test
or threadcount.

Now permissions are updated as follows:
1. do graph modifications ignoring permissions
2. do permission update
(of course, we rollback [1] if [2] fails)
So, on stage [2] we can't say which users are "old" and which are
"new" and exist only since [1]. And current error message is a bit
outdated. Let's improve it, to make everything clean.
While being here, add also a comment and some good assertions.
iotests 283, 307, qsd-jobs outputs are updated.

We have different types of parents: block nodes, block backends and
jobs. So, it makes sense to specify type together with name.
Next, this handler us used to compose an error message about permission
conflict. And permission conflict occurs in a specific place of block
graph. We shouldn't report name of parent device (as it refers another
place in block graph), but exactly and only the name of the node. So,
use bdrv_get_node_name() directly.

This variable is just a cache for !(bs->open_flags & BDRV_O_RDWR),
which we have to synchronize everywhere. Let's just drop it and

Add a Python container that has just enough juice for us to run the
Python code quality analysis tools. Base this container on Fedora,
because Fedora has very convenient packaging for testing multiple Python
versions.
We need python3, pip (for pulling packages), pipenv and virtualenv for
creating virtual environments, and tox for running tests. make is needed
for running 'make check-tox' and 'make venv-check' targets. Python3.10
is needed explicitly because the tox package only pulls in 3.6-3.9, but
we wish to test the forthcoming release of Python as well to help
predict any problems. Lastly, we need gcc to compile PyPI packages that
may not have a binary distribution available.
Add two tests:
check-python-pipenv uses pipenv to test a frozen, very explicit set of
packages against our minimum supported python version, Python 3.6. This
test is not allowed to fail. The dependencies this test uses do not
change unless python/Pipfile.lock is changed.
check-python-tox uses tox to install the latest versions of required
python dependencies against a wide array of Python versions from 3.6 to
3.9, even including the yet-to-be-released Python 3.10. This test is
allowed to fail with a warning.

move python/qemu/*.py to python/qemu/[machine, qmp, utils]/*.py and
update import directives across the tree.
This is done to create a PEP420 namespace package, in which we may
create subpackages. To do this, the namespace directory ("qemu") should
not have any modules in it. Those files will go into new 'machine',
'qmp' and 'utils' subpackages instead.
Implement machine/__init__.py making the top-level classes and functions
from its various modules available directly inside the package. Change
qmp.py to qmp/__init__.py similarly, such that all of the useful QMP
library classes are available directly from "qemu.qmp" instead of
"qemu.qmp.qmp".

mypy is kind of weird about how it handles imports. For legacy reasons,
it won't load PEP 420 namespaces, because of logic implemented prior to
that becoming a standard.
So, if you plan on using any, you have to pass
--namespace-packages. Alright, fine.

Even though there are qtest based tests for hotplugging CPUs (from
which this test took some inspiration from), this one adds checks
from a Linux guest point of view.
It should also serve as an example for tests that follow a similar
pattern and need to interact with QEMU (via qmp) and with the Linux
guest via SSH.

This makes the username/password used for authentication configurable,
because some guest operating systems may have restrictions on accounts

Both the virtiofs submounts and the linux ssh mips malta tests
contains useful methods related to ssh that deserve to be made
available to other tests. Let's move them to an auxiliary, mix-in
class that will be used on the base LinuxTest class.
The method that helps with setting up an ssh connection will now
support both key and password based authentication, defaulting to key
based.

Slightly different versions for the same utility code are currently
present on different locations. This unifies them all, giving
preference to the version from virtiofs_submounts.py, because of the
last tweaks added to it.
While at it, this adds a "qemu.utils" module to host the utility
function and a test.

If the vmlinuz variable is set to anything that evaluates to True,
then the respective arguments should be set. If the variable contains
an empty string, than it will evaluate to False, and the extra
arguments will not be set.
This keeps the same logic, but improves readability a bit.

Each instance of qemu.machine.QEMUMachine currently has a "test
directory", which may not have any relation to a "test", and it's
really a temporary directory.
Users instantiating the QEMUMachine class will be able to set the
location of the directory that will *contain* the QEMUMachine unique
temporary directory, so that parameter name has been changed from
test_dir to base_temp_dir.
A property has been added to allow users to access it without using
private attributes, and with that, the directory is created on first
use of the property.

Added a table-like output which contains the total number of calls
for each used syscall along with the number of errors that occurred.
Per-call tracing is still available through supplying the argument

Xtensa cores may or may not have hardware support for unaligned memory
access. Remove TARGET_ALIGNED_ONLY=y from all xtensa configurations and
pass MO_ALIGN in memory access flags for all operations that would raise
an exception.
Simplify use of gen_load_store_alignment by passing access size and
alignment requirements in single parameter.
Drop condition from xtensa_cpu_do_unaligned_access and replace it with
assertion.
Add a test.

When the token can be None (EOF), we can't use 'x in "abc"' style
membership tests to group types of tokens together, because 'None in
"abc"' is a TypeError.
Easy enough to fix. (Use a tuple: It's neither a static typing error nor
a runtime error to check for None in Tuple[str, ...])
Add tests to prevent a regression. (Note: they cannot be added prior to
this fix, as the unhandled stack trace will not match test output in the
CI system.)

Instead of using get_expr nested=False, allow get_expr to always return
any expression. In exchange, add a new error message to the top-level
parser that explains the semantic error: Top-level expressions must
always be JSON objects.
This helps mypy understand the rest of this function which assumes that
get_expr did indeed return a dict.
The exception type changes from QAPIParseError to QAPISemError as a
result, and the error message in two tests now changes.

Remove the try/except block that handles file-opening errors in
QAPISchemaParser.__init__() and add one each to
QAPISchemaParser._include() and QAPISchema.__init__() respectively.
This simultaneously fixes the typing of info.fname (f5d4361cda), A
static typing violation in test-qapi (46f49468c6), and a regression of
an error message (52a474180a).
The short-ish version of what motivates this patch is:
- It's hard to write a good error message in the init method,
because we need to determine the context of our caller to do so.
It's easier to just let the caller write the message.
- We don't want to allow QAPISourceInfo(None, None, None) to exist. The
typing introduced by commit f5d4361cda types the 'fname' field as
(non-optional) str, which was premature until the removal of this
construct.
- Errors made using such an object are currently incorrect (since
52a474180a)
- It's not technically a semantic error if we cannot open the schema.
- There are various typing constraints that make mixing these two cases
undesirable for a single special case.
- test-qapi's code handling an fname of 'None' is now dead, drop it.
Additionally, Not all QAPIError objects have an 'info' field (since
46f49468), so deleting this stanza corrects a typing oversight in
test-qapi introduced by that commit.
Other considerations:
- open() is moved to a 'with' block to ensure file pointers are
cleaned up deterministically.
- Python 3.3 deprecated IOError and made it a synonym for OSError.
Avoid the misleading perception these exception handlers are
narrower than they really are.
The long version:
The error message here is incorrect (since commit 52a474180a):

In pursuing it, we find that QAPISourceInfo has a special accommodation
for when there's no filename. Meanwhile, the intent when QAPISourceInfo
was typed (f5d4361cda) was non-optional 'str'. This usage was
overlooked.
To remove this, I'd want to avoid having a "fake" QAPISourceInfo
object. I also don't want to explicitly begin accommodating
QAPISourceInfo itself being None, because we actually want to eventually
prove that this can never happen -- We don't want to confuse "The file
isn't open yet" with "This error stems from a definition that wasn't
defined in any file".
(An earlier series tried to create a dummy info object, but it was tough
to prove in review that it worked correctly without creating new
regressions. This patch avoids that distraction. We would like to first
prove that we never raise QAPISemError for any built-in object before we
add "special" info objects. We aren't ready to do that yet.)
So, which way out of the labyrinth?
Here's one way: Don't try to handle errors at a level with "mixed"
semantic contexts; i.e. don't mix inclusion errors (should report a
source line where the include was triggered) and command line errors
(where we specified a file we couldn't read).
Remove the error handling from the initializer of the parser. Pythonic!
Now it's the caller's job to figure out what to do about it. Handle the
error in QAPISchemaParser._include() instead, where we can write a
targeted error message where we are guaranteed to have an 'info' context
to report with.
The root level error can similarly move to QAPISchema.__init__(), where
we know we'll never have an info context to report with, so we use a
more abstract error type.
Now the error looks sensible again:

With these error cases separated, QAPISourceInfo can be solidified as
never having placeholder arguments that violate our desired types. Clean
up test-qapi along similar lines.

This test case has the same tests as tests/virtio-blk-test.c except for
tests have block_resize. Since the vhost-user-blk export only serves one
client one time, two exports are started by qemu-storage-daemon for the

Currently there are two problems.
The first is clang generates a preamble (that is always executed) to
stack xmm registers. This causes a ILLOP on the x86_64 softmmu tests
as SSE isn't enabled.
The second is the inline assembler in test-i386.c breaks clangs
compiler and I don't know how to fix it. Even with Theodore's patch
series (D5741445-7EFD-4AF1-8DB2-E4AFA93CBB1A@icloud.com) I still get
compiler failures.
For now lets just skip clang and allow it to fall back to the
containers which we know have compilers which work.

A newer compiler is needed to build tests for Power10 instructions. As
done for arm64 on c729a99d27, a new '-test-cross' image is created for
ppc64 and ppc64le. As done on 936fda4d77, a test for compiler support
is added to verify that the toolchain in use has '-mpower10'. Finally,
Unused images (docker-power-cross and docker-ppc64-cross) are removed.

This kind of tests is inspired by the riscv-tests repository. This adds
macros that makes it easy to create single instruction self containing
tests.
It is achieved by macros that create a test sequence for an
instruction and check for a supplied correct value. If the value is correct the
next instruction is tested. Otherwise we jump to fail handler that writes is
test number as a status code back to qemu that then exits on that status code.
If all tests pass we write back 0 as a status code and exit.

terminate. Rather it would wait until the time runs out. Excerpt from the

At least for the TriCore target no easily available c compiler exists.
Thus we need to rely on "as" and "ld". This allows us to run them
through the docker image. We don't test the generation capabilities of
docker images as they are assumed to work.

There should only be one compiler per architecture. Those cases where
the same compiler can deal with a different architecture should be
explicitly set for both cross_cc and docker configurations. Otherwise
you get strangeness like:
--cross-cc-aarch64=/bin/false
causing the logic to attempt to use a locally available
arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc rather than forcing the use of the docker
image which is what is implied by the command line option.

This image is a little special because it takes a long time to build.
As such most users don't want to be doing that and just pull random
binaries from the ether as intended by the container gods. This
involves someone with credentials and a beefy machine running:

few wrinkles of course including needing to tweak the final image to
have the credentials of the user so we can actually do our cross
compiles.

Currently this only support softfloat calculations because working out
if the hardware supports 128 bit floats needs configure magic. The 3
op muladd operation is currently unimplemented so commented out for
now.

These tests use bdrv_write_threshold_exceeded() API, which is used only
for test (since pre-previous commit). Better is testing real API, which
is used in block.c as well.
So, let's call bdrv_write_threshold_check_write(), and check is
bs->write_threshold_offset cleared or not (it's cleared iff threshold
triggered).
Also we get rid of BdrvTrackedRequest use here. Note, that paranoiac
bdrv_check_request() calls were added in 8b1170012b to protect
BdrvTrackedRequest. Drop them now.

pylint 2.8 introduces consider-using-with error, suggesting
to use the 'with' block statement when possible.
Modify all subprocess.Popen call to use the 'with' statement,
except the one in __init__ of QemuIoInteractive class, since
it is assigned to a class field and used in other methods.

Right now there is no easy way for "check" to print a reproducer command.
Because such a reproducer command line would be huge, we can instead teach
check to start a command of our choice. This can be for example a Python
unit test with arguments to only run a specific subtest.
Move the trailing empty line to print_env(), since it always looks better
and one caller was not adding it.

In the next patch, "check" will learn how to execute a test script without
going through TestRunner. To enable this, keep only the text output
and subprocess handling in the TestRunner; move into TestEnv the logic
to prepare for running a subprocess.

Python test scripts that use unittest consist of multiple tests.
unittest.main allows selecting which tests to run, but currently this
is not possible because the iotests wrapper ignores sys.argv.
unittest.main command line options also allow the user to pick the
desired options for verbosity, failfast mode, etc. While "-d" is
currently translated to "-v", it also enables extra debug output,
and other options are not available at all.
These command line options only work if the unittest.main testRunner
argument is a type, rather than a TestRunner instance. Therefore, pass
the class name and "verbosity" argument to unittest.main, and adjust for
the different default warnings between TextTestRunner and unittest.main.

Instead of buffering the test output into a StringIO, patch it on
the fly by wrapping sys.stdout's write method. This can be
done unconditionally, even if using -d, which makes execute_unittest
a bit simpler.

If mirror is READY than cancel operation is not discarding the whole
result of the operation, but instead it's a documented way get a
point-in-time snapshot of source disk.
So, we should not cancel any requests if mirror is READ and
force=false. Let's fix that case.
Note, that bug that we have before this commit is not critical, as the
only .bdrv_cancel_in_flight implementation is nbd_cancel_in_flight()
and it cancels only requests waiting for reconnection, so it should be
rare case.

Sometimes the parser needs to further split a token it has collected
from the token input stream. Right now, it does a cursory check to see
if the relevant characters appear in the token to determine if it should
break it down further.
However, qemu_rbd_next_tok() will escape characters as it removes tokens
from the token stream and plain strchr() won't. This can make the
initial strchr() check slightly misleading since it implies
qemu_rbd_next_tok() will find the token and split on it, except the
reality is that qemu_rbd_next_tok() will pass over it if it is escaped.
Use a custom strchr to avoid mixing escaped and unescaped string
operations. Furthermore, this code is identical to how
qemu_rbd_next_tok() seeks its next token, so incorporate this custom
strchr into the body of that function to reduce duplication.

The default "alabaster" sphinx theme has a couple shortcomings:
- the navbar moves along the page
- the search bar is not always at the same place
- it lacks some contrast and colours
The "rtd" theme from readthedocs.org is a popular third party theme used
notably by the kernel, with a custom style sheet. I like it better,
perhaps others do too. It also simplifies the "Edit on Gitlab" links.
Tweak a bit the custom theme to match qemu.org style, use the
QEMU logo, and favicon etc.

Coverity notices that several places in the migration-test code fail
to free memory in error-exit paths. This is pretty unimportant in
test case code, but we can avoid having to manually free the memory
entirely by using g_autofree.
The places where Coverity spotted a leak were relating to early exits
not freeing 'uri' in test_precopy_unix(), do_test_validate_uuid(),
migrate_postcopy_prepare() and test_migrate_auto_converge(). This
patch converts all the string-allocation in the test code to
g_autofree for consistency.

In rtc-test.c we know that s is non-NULL because qtest_start()
will return a non-NULL value, and we assume this when we
pass s to qtest_irq_intercept_in(). So we can drop the
initial assignment of NULL and the "if (s)" condition at
the end of the function.

In the glib API, the distinction between g_assert() and
g_assert_true() is that the former is for "bug, terminate the
application" and the latter is for "test check, on failure either
terminate or just mark the testcase as failed". For QEMU, g_assert()
is always fatal, so code can assume that if the assertion fails
execution does not proceed, but this is not true of g_assert_true().
In npcm7xx_pwm-test, the pwm_index() and pwm_module_index() functions
include some assertions that are just guarding against possible bugs
in the test code that might lead us to out-of-bounds array accesses.
These should use g_assert() because they aren't part of what the test
is testing and the code does not correctly handle the case where the
condition was false.
This fixes some Coverity issues where Coverity knows that
g_assert_true() can continue when the condition is false and
complains about the possible array overrun at various callsites.

Coverity notes that when calculating the 64-bit iso_size value in
ahci_test_cdrom() we actually only do it with 32-bit arithmetic.
This doesn't matter for the current test code because nsectors is
always small; but adding the cast avoids the coverity complaints.

Some downstreams rename the QEMU binary to "qemu-kvm". This breaks
qtest_get_arch(), which attempts to parse the target architecture from
the QTEST_QEMU_BINARY environment variable.
Print an error instead of returning the architecture "kvm". Things fail
in weird ways when the architecture string is bogus.
Arguably qtests should always be run in a build directory instead of
against an installed QEMU. In any case, printing a clear error when this
happens is helpful.
Since this is an error that is triggered by the user and not a test
failure, use exit(1) instead of abort(). Change the existing abort()

Guestperf tool does not cover the multifd-enabled migration
currently, it is worth supporting so that developers can
analysis the migration performance with all kinds of
migration.
To request that multifd is enabled, with 4 channels:

To run the entire standardized set of multifd-enabled
comparisons, with unix migration:

Coverity notices that several places in the migration-test code fail
to free memory in error-exit paths. This is pretty unimportant in
test case code, but we can avoid having to manually free the memory
entirely by using g_autofree.
The places where Coverity spotted a leak were relating to early exits
not freeing 'uri' in test_precopy_unix(), do_test_validate_uuid(),
migrate_postcopy_prepare() and test_migrate_auto_converge(). This
patch converts all the string-allocation in the test code to
g_autofree for consistency.

There are no known users of this CPU anymore, and there are no
binaries available online which could be used for regression tests,
so the code has likely completely bit-rotten already. It's been
marked as deprecated since two releases now and nobody spoke up

This tests a Debian multi-soc arm32 Linux kernel on the AST2600 based
Tacoma BMC machine.
There is no root file system so the test terminates when boot reaches
the stage where it attempts and fails to mount something.

This adds a test for the Aspeed Hash and Crypto (HACE) engine. It tests
the currently implemented behavior of the hash functionality.
The tests are similar, but are cut/pasted instead of broken out into a
common function so the assert machinery produces useful output when a
test fails.

Prior to this commit, specifying a non-object value here causes the QAPI
parser to crash in expr.py with a stack trace with (likely) an
AttributeError when we attempt to call that value's items() method.
This member needs to be an object (Dict), and not anything else. Add a
check for this with a nicer error message, and formalize that check with
new test cases that exercise that error.

Now, bdrv_node_check_perm() is called only with fresh cumulative
permissions, so its actually "refresh_perm".
Move permission calculation to the function. Also, drop unreachable
error message and rewrite the remaining one to be more generic (as now
we don't know which node is added and which was already here).
Add also Virtuozzo copyright, as big work is done at this point.

We don't need this workaround anymore: bdrv_append is already smart
enough and we can use new bdrv_drop_filter().
This commit efficiently reverts also recent 705dde27c6, which
checked .active on io path. Still it said that the problem should be
theoretical. And the logic of filter removement is changed anyway.

bdrv_append is not very good for inserting filters: it does extra
permission update as part of bdrv_set_backing_hd(). During this update
filter may conflict with other parents of top_bs.
Instead, let's first do all graph modifications and after it update
permissions.
append-greedy-filter test-case in test-bdrv-graph-mod is now works, so
move it out of debug option.
Note: bdrv_append() is still only works for backing-child based
filters. It's something to improve later.
Note2: we use the fact that bdrv_append() is used to append new nodes,
without backing child, so we don't need frozen check and inherits_from
logic from bdrv_set_backing_hd().

Split out no-perm part of bdrv_root_attach_child() into separate
transaction action. bdrv_root_attach_child() now moves to new
permission update paradigm: first update graph relations then update
permissions.
qsd-jobs test output updated. Seems now permission update goes in
another order. Still, the test comment say that we only want to check
that command doesn't crash, and it's still so.
Error message is a bit misleading as it looks like job was added first.
But actually in new paradigm of graph update we can't distinguish such
things. We should update the error message, but let's not do it now.

inore_children thing doesn't help to track all propagated permissions
of children we want to ignore. The simplest way to correctly update
permissions is update graph first and then do permission update. In
this case we just referesh permissions for the whole subgraph (in
topological-sort defined order) and everything is correctly calculated
automatically without any ignore_children.
So, refactor bdrv_replace_node_common to first do graph update and then
refresh the permissions.
Test test_parallel_exclusive_write() now pass, so move it out of
debugging "if".

Rewrite bdrv_check_perm(), bdrv_abort_perm_update() and bdrv_set_perm()
to update nodes in topological sort order instead of simple DFS. With
topologically sorted nodes, we update a node only when all its parents
already updated. With DFS it's not so.
Consider the following example:

A is parent for B and C, B is parent for C.
Obviously, to update permissions, we should go in order A B C, so, when
we update C, all parent permissions already updated. But with current
approach (simple recursion) we can update in sequence A C B C (C is
updated twice). On first update of C, we consider old B permissions, so
doing wrong thing. If it succeed, all is OK, on second C update we will
finish with correct graph. But if the wrong thing failed, we break the
whole process for no reason (it's possible that updated B permission
will be less strict, but we will never check it).
Also new approach gives a way to simultaneously and correctly update
several nodes, we just need to run bdrv_topological_dfs() several times
to add all nodes and their subtrees into one topologically sorted list
(next patch will update bdrv_replace_node() in this manner).
Test test_parallel_perm_update() is now passing, so move it out of
debugging "if".
We also need to support ignore_children in
bdrv_parent_perms_conflict()
For test 283 order of conflicting parents check is changed.
Note also that in bdrv_check_perm() we don't check for parents conflict
at root bs, as we may be in the middle of permission update in
bdrv_reopen_multiple(). bdrv_reopen_multiple() will be updated soon.

We have too much comments for this feature. It seems better just don't
do it. Most of real users (tests don't count) have to create additional
reference.
Drop also comment in external_snapshot_prepare:
- bdrv_append doesn't "remove" old bs in common sense, it sounds
strange
- the fact that bdrv_append can fail is obvious from the context
- the fact that we must rollback all changes in transaction abort is
known (it's the direct role of abort)

bdrv_append() is not quite good for inserting filters: it does extra
permission update in intermediate state, where filter get it filtered
child but is not yet replace it in a backing chain.
Some filters (for example backup-top) may want permissions even when
have no parents. And described intermediate state becomes invalid.
That's (half a) reason, why we need "inactive" state for backup-top
filter.
bdrv_append() will be improved later, now let's add a unit test.
Now test fails, so it runs only with -d flag. To run do
./test-bdrv-graph-mod -d -p /bdrv-graph-mod/append-greedy-filter
from <build-directory>/tests.

Add test to show that simple DFS recursion order is not correct for
permission update. Correct order is topological-sort order, which will
be introduced later.
Consider the block driver which has two filter children: one active
with exclusive write access and one inactive with no specific
permissions.
And, these two children has a common base child, like this:

So, exclusive write is propagated.
Assume, we want to make fl2 active instead of fl1.
So, we set some option for top driver and do permission update.
If permission update (remember, it's DFS) goes first through
top->fl1->base branch it will succeed: it firstly drop exclusive write
permissions and than apply them for another BdrvChildren.
But if permission update goes first through top->fl2->base branch it
will fail, as when we try to update fl2->base child, old not yet
updated fl1->base child will be in conflict.
Now test fails, so it runs only with -d flag. To run do
./test-bdrv-graph-mod -d -p /bdrv-graph-mod/parallel-perm-update
from <build-directory>/tests.

Add the test that shows that concept of ignore_children is incomplete.
Actually, when we want to update something, ignoring permission of some
existing BdrvChild, we should ignore also the propagated effect of this
child to the other children. But that's not done. Better approach
(update permissions on already updated graph) will be implemented
later.
Now the test fails, so it's added with -d argument to not break make
check.
Test fails with
"Conflicts with use by fl1 as 'backing', which does not allow 'write' on base"
because when updating permissions we can ignore original top->fl1
BdrvChild. But we don't ignore exclusive write permission in fl1->base
BdrvChild, which is propagated. Correct thing to do is make graph
change first and then do permission update from the top node.
To run test do
./test-bdrv-graph-mod -d -p /bdrv-graph-mod/parallel-exclusive-write
from <build-directory>/tests.

Using mprotect() to change PROT_* does not change the MAP_ANON
previously set with mmap(). Our linux-user version of MTE only
works with MAP_ANON pages, so losing PAGE_ANON caused MTE to
stop working.

Just demonstrate one of x-blockdev-reopen usecases. We can't simply
remove persistent bitmap from RO node (for example from backing file),
as we need to remove it from the image too. So, we should reopen the
node first.

The job may or may not be ready before the 'quit' is issued. Whether it
is is irrelevant; for the purpose of the test, it only needs to still be
there. Filter the job status change and READY events from the output so
it becomes reliable.

when execute the following test command:

test aborts and error message be throwed as the following:
"Parameter 'x-cpu-throttle-increment' is unexpected"
The reason is that 'x-cpu-throttle-increment' has been
deprecated and 'cpu-throttle-increment' was introduced
Since v2.7. Use the new parameter instead.

Depending on the version of gdb we may not execute the first line of
SHA1Init when executing the first "next" command - instead just
stepping over the preamble. As we don't actually care about the
position of the PC after the steps and want to be sure the
context->state[] has been loaded before we inspect it do a double next
at the start.
