Microsoft introduced this ACPI table to avoid Windows guests performing
various workarounds for device erratas. As the virtual device emulated
by VMM may not have the errata.
Currently, WAET allows hypervisor to inform guest about two
specific behaviors: One for RTC and the other for ACPI PM timer.
Support for WAET have been introduced since Windows Vista. This ACPI
table is also exposed by other common hypervisors by default, including:
VMware, GCP and AWS.
This patch adds WAET ACPI Table to QEMU.
We set "ACPI PM timer good" bit in "Emualted Device Flags" field to
indicate that the ACPI PM timer has been enhanced to not require
multiple reads to obtain a reliable value.
This results in improving the performance of Windows guests that use
ACPI PM timer by avoiding unnecessary VMExits caused by these multiple
reads.

This patch makes IO base and size configurable to create NPIO AML for
ACPI NFIT. Since a different architecture like AArch64 does not use
port-mapped IO, a configurable IO base is required to create correct
mapping of ACPI IO address and size.

With QEMU 4.0 an incompatible change was added to pc_piix, which makes it
practical impossible to migrate domUs started with qemu2 or qemu3 to
newer qemu versions. Commit 7fccf2a068
added and enabled a new member "smbus_no_migration_support". In commit
4ab2f2a8aa the vmstate_acpi got new
elements, which are conditionally filled. As a result, an incoming
migration expected smbus related data unless smbus migration was
disabled for a given MachineClass. Since first commit forgot to handle
'xenfv', domUs started with QEMU 4.x are incompatible with their QEMU
siblings.
Using other existing machine types, such as 'pc-i440fx-3.1', is not
possible because 'xenfv' creates the 'xen-platform' PCI device at
00:02.0, while all other variants to run a domU would create it at
00:04.0.
To cover both the existing and the broken case of 'xenfv' in a single
qemu binary, a new compatibility variant of 'xenfv-4.2' must be added
which targets domUs started with qemu 4.2. The existing 'xenfv' restores
compatibility of QEMU 5.x with qemu 3.1.
Host admins who started domUs with QEMU 4.x (preferrable QEMU 4.2)
have to use a wrapper script which appends '-machine xenfv-4.2' to
the device-model command line. This is only required if there is no
maintenance window which allows to temporary shutdown the domU and
restart it with a fixed device-model.
The wrapper script is as simple as this:

With xl this script will be enabled with device_model_override=, see
xl.cfg(5). To live migrate a domU, adjust the existing domU.cfg and pass
it to xl migrate or xl save/restore:

xl save domU CheckpointFile new-domU.cfg
xl restore new-domU.cfg CheckpointFile
With libvirt this script will be enabled with the <emulator> element in
domU.xml. Use 'virsh edit' prior 'virsh migrate' to replace the existing
<emulator> element to point it to the wrapper script.

Apicid calculation depends on knowing the total number of numa nodes
for EPYC cpu models. Right now, we are calculating the arch_id while
parsing the numa(parse_numa). At this time, it is not known how many
total numa nodes are configured in the system.
Move the arch_id calculation inside x86_cpus_init. At this time, smp
parse is already completed and numa node information is available.
Override the handlers if use_epyc_apic_id_encoding is enabled in
cpu model definition.
Also replace the calling convention to use handlers from
X86MachineState.

In the function amdvi_log_event(), we write an event log buffer
entry into guest ram, whose contents are passed to the function
via the "uint64_t *evt" argument. Unfortunately, a spurious
'&' in the call to dma_memory_write() meant that instead of
writing the event to the guest we would write the literal value
of the pointer, plus whatever was in the following 8 bytes
on the stack. This error was spotted by Coverity.
Fix the bug by removing the '&'.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to
declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible
array member [1], introduced in C99:

warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the

The vtd_find_as_from_bus_num() function was introduced (in commit
dbaabb25f) in a code format that could return an incorrect pointer,
which was later fixed by commit a2e1cd41cc.
We could have avoided this by writing the if() statement differently.
Do it now, in case this function is re-used. The code is easier to
review (harder to miss bugs).

QEMU currently crashes when the user tries to use the "vmmouse" on a
machine without vmport, e.g.:
$ x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -machine microvm -device vmmouse
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

$ x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -device vmmouse -M pc,vmport=off

Let's avoid the crash by checking for the vmport device first.

Provide a temporary device_legacy_reset function doing what
device_reset does to prepare for the transition with Resettable
API.
All occurrence of device_reset in the code tree are also replaced
by device_legacy_reset.
The new resettable API has different prototype and semantics
(resetting child buses as well as the specified device). Subsequent
commits will make the changeover for each call site individually; once
that is complete device_legacy_reset() will be removed.

While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to
detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch,
this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of
the executable in question. The change expands functionality of
the following functions:
- load_elf()
- load_elf_as()
- load_elf_ram()
- load_elf_ram_sym()
The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of
type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word'
being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit
variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that
argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will
happen, and no information will be returned, of course.

Per the ACPI spec (version 6.1, section 6.1.5 _HID) it is not required
on enumerated buses (like PCI in this case), _ADR is required (and is
already there). And the _HID value is wrong. Linux appears to ignore
the _HID entry, but Windows 10 detects it as 'Unknown Device' and there

It's not what real HW does, implementing which would be overkill [**]
and would require complex cross stack changes (QEMU+firmware) to make
it work.
So considering that SMRAM is owned by MCH, for simplicity (ab)use
reserved Q35 register, which allows QEMU and firmware easily init
and make RAM at SMBASE available only from SMM context.
Patch uses commit (2f295167e0 q35/mch: implement extended TSEG sizes)
for inspiration and uses reserved register in config space at 0x9c
offset [*] to extend q35 pci-host with ability to use 128K at
0x30000 as SMRAM and hide it (like TSEG) from non-SMM context.
Usage:
1: write 0xff in the register
2: if the feature is supported, follow up read from the register
should return 0x01. At this point RAM at 0x30000 is still
available for SMI handler configuration from non-SMM context
3: writing 0x02 in the register, locks SMBASE area, making its contents
available only from SMM context. In non-SMM context, reads return
0xff and writes are ignored. Further writes into the register are
ignored until the system reset.

QDEV_PROP_PTR is marked in multiple places as "FIXME/TODO/remove
me". In most cases, it can be easily replaced with QDEV_PROP_LINK when
the pointer points to an Object.
There are a few places where such substitution isn't possible. For
those places, it seems reasonable to use a specific setter method
instead, and keep the user_creatable = false. In other places,
proper usage of qdev or other facilies is the solution.
The serial code wasn't converted to qdev, which makes it a bit more
archaic to deal with. Let's convert it first, so we can more easily
embed it from other devices, and re-export some properties and drop
QDEV_PROP_PTR usage.

Clean-ups: qom-ify serial and remove QDEV_PROP_PTR
Hi,
QDEV_PROP_PTR is marked in multiple places as "FIXME/TODO/remove
me". In most cases, it can be easily replaced with QDEV_PROP_LINK when
the pointer points to an Object.
There are a few places where such substitution isn't possible. For
those places, it seems reasonable to use a specific setter method
instead, and keep the user_creatable = false. In other places,
proper usage of qdev or other facilies is the solution.
The serial code wasn't converted to qdev, which makes it a bit more
archaic to deal with. Let's convert it first, so we can more easily
embed it from other devices, and re-export some properties and drop
QDEV_PROP_PTR usage.

When the 'vga=' parameter is succeeded by another parameter, QEMU 4.2.0
would refuse to start with a rather cryptic message:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -kernel /boot/vmlinuz-linux -append 'vga=792 quiet'
qemu: can't parse 'vga' parameter: Invalid argument
It was not clear whether this applied to the '-vga std' parameter or the
'-append' one. Fix the parsing regression and clarify the error.

HMAT is defined in ACPI 6.3: 5.2.27 Heterogeneous Memory Attribute Table
(HMAT). The specification references below link:

It describes the memory attributes, such as memory side cache
attributes and bandwidth and latency details, related to the
Memory Proximity Domain. The software is
expected to use this information as hint for optimization.
This structure describes Memory Proximity Domain Attributes by memory
subsystem and its associativity with processor proximity domain as well as
hint for memory usage.
In the linux kernel, the codes in drivers/acpi/hmat/hmat.c parse and report
the platform's HMAT tables.

Should directly read DMAR_RTADDR_REG but not using 's->root'.
Because 's->root' is modified in 'vtd_root_table_setup()' so
that the first 12 bits are omitted. This causes the guest
iommu debugfs cannot show pasid tables.

The pc-0.x machines have been marked as deprecated since QEMU v4.0, so
it is time to remove them now.
And while we're at it, mark the remaining pc-1.x machine types
as deprecated now, too, so that we finally only have "pc-i440fx"
and "pc-q35" machine types left (apart from the non-versioned
"isapc" and "microvm") once we remove them in a couple of releases.

This device is only used by the PC machines. The pc.c file is
already big enough, with 2255 lines. By removing 113 lines of
it, we reduced it by 5%. It is now a bit easier to navigate
the file.

All callers of ioapic_init_gsi() provide a parent. We want new
uses to follow the same good practice and provide the parent
name, so do not make this optional: assert the parent name is

Virtio spec 1.1 (and earlier), 5.2.5.2 Driver Requirements: Device
Initialization:
"Devices SHOULD always offer VIRTIO_BLK_F_FLUSH, and MUST offer it if
they offer VIRTIO_BLK_F_CONFIG_WCE"
Currently F_CONFIG_WCE and F_WCE are not connected to each other.
Qemu will advertise F_CONFIG_WCE if config-wce argument is
set for virtio-blk device. And F_WCE is advertised only if
underlying block backend actually has it's caching enabled.
Fix this by advertising F_WCE if F_CONFIG_WCE is also advertised.
To preserve backwards compatibility with newer machine types make this
behaviour governed by "x-enable-wce-if-config-wce" virtio-blk-device
property and introduce hw_compat_4_2 with new property being off by
default for all machine types <= 4.2 (but don't introduce 4.3
machine type itself yet).

The access to the machine class returned by MACHINE_GET_CLASS() in
tsc_khz_needed() is crashing as it is trying to dereference a different
type of machine class object (TYPE_PC_MACHINE) to that of this microVM.
This can be resolved by extending the changes in the following commit
f0bb276bf8 ("hw/i386: split PCMachineState deriving X86MachineState from it")
and moving the save_tsc_khz field in PCMachineClass to X86MachineClass.

Move its creation to the machine code (pc_piix.c).
We have now removed the last trace of southbridge code in the i440FX
northbridge.

Change the handling of port F0h writes and FPU exceptions to implement IGNNE.
The implementation mixes a bit what the chipset and processor do in real
hardware, but the effect is the same as what happens with actual FERR#
and IGNNE# pins: writing to port F0h asserts IGNNE# in addition to lowering
FP_IRQ; while clearing the SE bit in the FPU status word deasserts IGNNE#.

It's a minimalist machine type without PCI nor ACPI support, designed
for short-lived guests. microvm also establishes a baseline for
benchmarking and optimizing both QEMU and guest operating systems,
since it is optimized for both boot time and footprint.

This is in preparation for adding support for ARM64 platforms
where it doesn't use port mapped IO for ACPI IO space. We are
making changes so that MMIO region can be accommodated
and board can pass the base address into the aml build function.
Also move few MEMORY_* definitions to header so that other memory
hotplug event signalling mechanisms (eg. Generic Event Device on
HW-reduced acpi platforms) can use the same from their respective
event handler code.

Currently, when a notifier is attempted to be registered and its
flags are not supported (especially the MAP one) by the IOMMU MR,
we generally abruptly exit in the IOMMU code. The failure could be
handled more nicely in the caller and especially in the VFIO code.
So let's allow memory_region_register_iommu_notifier() to fail as
well as notify_flag_changed() callback.
All sites implementing the callback are updated. This patch does
not yet remove the exit(1) in the amd_iommu code.
in SMMUv3 we turn the warning message into an error message saying
that the assigned device would not work properly.

This is so I2C devices can be found in the ACPI namespace. Currently
that's only IPMI, but devices can be easily added now.
Adding the devices required some PCI information, and the bus itself
to be added to the PCMachineState structure.
Note that this only works on Q35, the ACPI for PIIX4 is not capable
of handling an SMBus device.

Instead of bailing out when trying to hotplug a vfio-pci device with
below configuration:
-device intel-iommu,caching-mode=off
With this we can return a warning message to the user via QMP/HMP and
the VM will continue to work after failing the hotplug:

This check was previously only happened when the IOMMU is enabled in
the guest. It was always too late because the enabling of IOMMU
normally only happens during the boot of guest OS. It means that we
can bail out and exit directly during the guest OS boots if the
configuration of devices are not supported. Or, if the guest didn't
enable vIOMMU at all, then the user can use the guest normally but as
long as it reconfigure the guest OS to enable the vIOMMU then reboot,
the user will see the panic right after the reset when the next boot
starts.
Let's make this failure even earlier so that we force the user to use
caching-mode for vfio-pci devices when with the vIOMMU. So the user
won't get surprise at least during execution of the guest, which seems
a bit nicer.
This will affect some user who didn't enable vIOMMU in the guest OS
but was using vfio-pci and the vtd device in the past. However I hope
it's not a majority because not enabling vIOMMU with the device
attached is actually meaningless.
We still keep the old assertion for safety so far because the hotplug
path could still reach it, so far.

CONFIG_ACPI_PCI is a hard requirement of acpi-build.c, which is built
unconditionally for x86 target. Putting it in default-configs/ suggests
that it can be easily disabled, which isn't true.
Relocate the symbol with the other acpi-build.c requirements, under
'config PC'. This is similar to what is done for the arm 'virt' machine
type and CONFIG_ACPI_PCI

The clock move makes the guest knows about the paused time between the
'stop' and 'migrate' commands. This is an issue in an already-paused
VM because some side effects, like process stalls, could happen
after migration.
So, this patch checks the runstate of guest in the pre_save handler and
do not re-reads the clock in case of paused state (cold migration).

Commit 176d2cda0 (i386/cpu: Consolidate die-id validity in smp context) added
new 'die-id' topology property to CPUs and exposed it via QMP command
query-hotpluggable-cpus, which broke -device/device_add cpu-foo for existing
users that do not support die-id/dies yet. That's would be fine if it happened
to new machine type only but it also happened to old machine types,
which breaks migration from old QEMU to the new one, for example following CLI:
OLD-QEMU -M pc-i440fx-4.0 -smp 1,max_cpus=2 \
-device qemu64-x86_64-cpu,socket-id=1,core-id=0,thread-id
is not able to start with new QEMU, complaining about invalid die-id.
After discovering regression, the patch
"pc: Don't make die-id mandatory unless necessary"
makes die-id optional so old CLI would work.
However it's not enough as new QEMU still exposes die-id via query-hotpluggbale-cpus
QMP command, so the users that started old machine type on new QEMU, using all
properties (including die-id) received from QMP command (as required), won't be
able to start old QEMU using the same properties since it doesn't support die-id.
Fix it by hiding die-id in query-hotpluggbale-cpus for all machine types in case
'-smp dies' is not provided on CLI or -smp dies = 1', in which case smp_dies == 1
and APIC ID is calculated in default way (as it was before DIE support) so we won't
need compat code as in both cases the topology provided to guest via CPUID is the same.

nb_queue was not zeroed so that we no longer delivered events if a
previous guest left the device in an overflow state.

We have this issue reported when using libvirt to hotplug CPUs:

Basically, libvirt is not copying die-id from
query-hotpluggable-cpus, but die-id is now mandatory.
We could blame libvirt and say it is not following the documented
interface, because we have this buried in the QAPI schema
documentation:

> but management should be prepared to pass through other
> properties with device_add command to allow for future
> interface extension. This also requires the filed names to be kept in
> sync with the properties passed to -device/device_add.
But I don't think this would be reasonable from us. We can just
make QEMU more flexible and let die-id to be omitted when there's
no ambiguity. This will allow us to keep compatibility with
existing libvirt versions.
Test case included to ensure we don't break this again.

Add struct NumaState in MachineState and move existing numa global
nb_numa_nodes(renamed as "num_nodes") into NumaState. And add variable
numa_support into MachineClass to decide which submachines support NUMA.

Add 4.2 machine types for arm/i440fx/q35/s390x/spapr.
For i440fx and q35, unversioned cpu models are still translated
to -v1, as 0788a56bd1 ("i386: Make unversioned CPU models be
aliases") states this should only transition to the latest cpu
model version in 4.3 (or later).

In order to reduce the memory footprint we map into memory
the initrd using g_mapped_file_new() instead of reading it.
In this way we can share the initrd pages between multiple
instances of QEMU.
