Allows to remove one FIXME. Makes LIBUSB_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING build errors
go away. And starting with that version libusb has a LIBUSBX_API_VERSION
define which allows to easily #ifdef version dependencies should that
need arrive in the future.

The WWPN specified in configfs is passed to "-device vhost-scsi-pci".
The tgpt field of the SET_ENDPOINT ioctl is obsolete now, so it is not
available from the QEMU command-line. Instead, I hardcode it to zero.

Previously, this was done for target_long/ulong, and propagated to
abi_long/ulong via a typedef. But target_long/ulong should not
have any specific alignment, it is never used to access guest
memory.

Configure to use the DTC submodule to build libfdt when no system libfdt
is found. Prompt to install the DTC submodule if --enable-fdt is set but
no DTC can be found.
DTC has no out-of-tree build capability, so the configure will symlink
the Makefile and scripts directory in the out of tree build directory
and pass in all the needed DTC arguments to make out of tree build happen.
Ideally we fix the DTC make to support out of tree, but did it this way to
avoid commits to DTC.

The cross compile CFLAGS are needed to properly build pixman (and any other
submodules). Only the EXTRA_CFLAGS set is passed to submodules not QEMU_CFLAGS,
so put the cross compile flags in EXTRA_CFLAGS instead.

Reimplement usb-host on top of libusb.
Reasons to do this:
(1) Largely rewritten from scratch, nice opportunity to kill historical
cruft.
(2) Offload usbfs handling to libusb.
(3) Have a single portable code base instead of bsd + linux variants.
(4) Bring usb-host support to any platform supported by libusbx.
For now this goes side-by-side to the existing code. That is only to
simplify regression testing though, at the end of the day I want remove
the old code and support libusb exclusively. Merge early in 1.5 cycle,
remove the old code after 1.5 release or something like this.
Thanks to qdev the old and new code can coexist nicely on linux. Just
use "-device usb-host-linux" to use the old linux driver instead of the
libusb one (which takes over the "usb-host" name).
The bsd driver isn't qdev'ified so it isn't that easy for bsd.
I didn't bother making it runtime switchable, so you have to rebuild
qemu with --disable-libusb to get back the old code.

virtio/dataplane/vring.c requires the Linux headers and is built for all

libssh2_sftp_fsync is an extension to libssh2 to support fsync(2) over
sftp, which is itself an extension of OpenSSH.
If both libssh2 and the ssh daemon support it, this will allow
bdrv_flush_to_disk to commit changes through to disk on the remote
server.

qemu-system-x86_64 -drive file=ssh://hostname/some/image
QEMU will ssh into 'hostname' and open '/some/image' which is made
available as a standard block device.
You can specify a username (ssh://user@host/...) and/or a port number
(ssh://host:port/...). You can also use an alternate syntax using
properties (file.user, file.host, file.port, file.path).
Current limitations:
- Authentication must be done without passwords or passphrases, using
ssh-agent. Other authentication methods are not supported.
- Uses a single connection, instead of concurrent AIO with multiple
SSH connections.
This is implemented using libssh2 on the client side. The server just
requires a regular ssh daemon with sftp-server support. Most ssh
daemons on Unix/Linux systems will work out of the box.

The CONFIG_DEBUG_EXEC define compiles out a single qemu_log_mask()
call, which is a pretty trivial cost even for something in the main
cpu_exec() loop. Having this be conditionally defined means that
'-d exec' on a non-debug build will silently do nothing. Drop the
define and the configure machinery that sets it, in favour of just
always allowing this log option to be enabled at runtime. As a
concession to the mainloopiness, we use qemu_loglevel_mask()+qemu_log()
rather than qemu_log_mask() to avoid the function call overhead.
Note that DEBUG_DISAS is always defined, so removing the
'|| defined(CONFIG_DEBUG_EXEC)' from those conditionals makes
no behavioural change for that logging.

The gthread coroutine backend is broken and does not produce a working
QEMU; it is only useful for some very limited debugging situations.
Clean up the backend selection logic in configure so that it now runs
"if on windows use windows; else prefer ucontext; else sigaltstack".
To do this we refactor the configure code to separate out "test
whether we have a working ucontext", "pick a default if user didn't
specify" and "validate that user didn't specify something invalid",
rather than having all three of these run together. We also simplify
the Makefile logic so it just links in the backend the configure
script selects.

As of 5a49d3e9 we assume SPICE_PORT_EVENT_BREAK to be defined.
However, it is defined not in 0.12.2 what we require now, but in
0.12.3. Therefore in order to prevent build failure we must

Due to library conflicts, Fedora will have to put libiscsi in
/usr/lib/iscsi. Simplify configuration by using a pkg-config
file. The Fedora package will distribute one, and the patch
to add it has been sent to upstream libiscsi as well.

N32 is a 64-bit cpu with a 32-bit address space. We have
existing cpp defines for this situation, but weren't using them.
This does mean that the linux-user/mipsn32 directory must be
merged with the linux-user/mips64 directory, and differences
must be resolved via ifdefs.

Add a arg to configure to switch from GTK2 (default) to
GTK3 (optional) build for QEMU.
./configure --with-gtkabi=3.0
will choose GTK3, while
./configure --with-gtkabi=2.0
will choose GTK2 (and remains the current default)

One part of this patch reverts commit 22bc9a46, which disabled the
warning. The rest of it deals with the warning by adding a #pragma for
newer gcc and by disabling -Werror for compilers that can't deal with

This is minimalistic and just contains the basic widget infrastructure. The GUI
consists of a menu and a GtkNotebook. To start with, the notebook has its tabs
hidden which provides a UI that looks very similar to SDL with the exception of
the menu bar.
The menu bar allows a user to toggle the visibility of the tabs. Cairo is used
for rendering.
I used gtk-vnc as a reference. gtk-vnc solves the same basic problems as QEMU
since it was originally written as a remote display for QEMU. So for the most
part, the approach to rendering and keyboard handling should be pretty solid for
GTK.

Replace some x86_64 specific inline assembly with something that
all 64-bit hosts ought to optimize well. At worst this becomes
a call to the gcc __multi3 routine, which is no worse than our
implementation in util/host-utils.c.
With gcc 4.7, we get identical code generation for x86_64. We

The automatic drop of -Werror during the RC phases has in the past led
to warnings creeping into submaintainer trees.
Last QEMU Summit it was concluded that -Werror should stay on and
enabled only as part of the release process.
To relieve our release manager, instead of always enabling -Werror or
doing some number magic, let's enable it depending on whether a .git/
directory exists in the source tree.

This patch adds basic Websocket Protocol version 13 - RFC 6455 - support
to QEMU VNC. Binary encoding support on the client side is mandatory.
Because of the GnuTLS requirement the Websockets implementation is
optional (--enable-vnc-ws).
To activate Websocket support the VNC option "websocket"is used, for
example "-vnc :0,websocket".
The listen port for Websocket connections is (5700 + display) so if
QEMU VNC is started with :0 the Websocket port would be 5700.
As an alternative the Websocket port could be manually specified by
using ",websocket=<port>" instead.
Parts of the implementation base on Anthony Liguori's QEMU Websocket
patch from 2010 and on Joel Martin's LibVNC Websocket implementation.

Static linkikng against ncurses may require explicit -ltinfo.
In case -lcurses and -lncurses both didn't work give pkg-config a
chance.

Linux 2.6.38 introduced the filesystem independent interface to
deallocate part of a file. As of Linux 3.7, btrfs, ext4, ocfs2,
tmpfs and xfs support it.
Even though the system calls here are in practice issued on Linux,
the code is structured to allow plugging in alternatives for other Unix
variants. EOPNOTSUPP is used unconditionally in this patch, but it is
supported in both OpenBSD and Mac OS X since forever (see for example
http://lists.debian.org/debian-glibc/2006/02/msg00337.html).

Buffered bulk mode is intended for bulk *input* endpoints, where the data is
of a streaming nature (not part of a command-response protocol). These
endpoints' input buffer may overflow if data is not read quickly enough.
So in buffered bulk mode the usb-host takes care of the submitting and
re-submitting of bulk transfers.
Buffered bulk mode is necessary for reliable operation with the bulk in
endpoints of usb to serial convertors. Unfortunatelty buffered bulk input
mode will only work with certain devices, therefor this patch also adds a
usb-id table to enable it for devices which need it, while leaving the
bulk ep handling for other devices unmodified.
Note that the bumping of the required usbredir from 0.5.3 to 0.6 does
not mean that we will now need a newer usbredir release then qemu-1.3,
.pc files reporting 0.5.3 have only ever existed in usbredir builds directly
from git, so qemu-1.3 needs the 0.6 release too.

vnc-tls.h is included by vnc.h, and it includes gnutls/gnutls.h.
Hence, GnuTLS header files are needed by all files that include
vnc.h, most notably qmp.c. Move these flags to QEMU_CFLAGS for
simplicity.

Default to 'cc' as our compiler, rather than 'gcc'. We used to have
to insist on gcc when we still kept the CPU env in a fixed global
register, but this is no longer necessary and we will now compile OK
on clang as well as gcc. Using 'cc' should generally result in us
using the most standard and maintained system compiler for the
platform. (For instance on newer MacOS X 'gcc' exists but is an
elderly compiler provided mostly for legacy reasons, and 'cc'
(which is clang) is definitely the better choice.) On Linux there
will generally be no user-visible change since cc will be gcc.
This changeover necessitates a slight reworking of how we set the
'cc' variable, because GNU cross toolchains generally provide a
'${cross_prefix}gcc' but not a '${cross_prefix}cc'.

These versions of GCC require insane (>2GB) amounts of memory to compile
translate.o. As a countermeasure, disable the culprit optimization pass.
This should fix the buildbot failure for default_x86_64_fedora16. Anyway
this is a good thing to do because people will try to compile 1.3 with
less than 2GB of memory and complain.

The TCG interpreter still does not support this kind of
optimization. Therefore builds with TCI fail with an
unresolved symbol tcg_out_tb_finalize. This is fixed here.

gcc will silently accept unrecognized -Wno-wombat warning suppression
options (it only mentions them if it has to print a compiler warning
for some other reason). Since we already run a check for whether gcc
recognizes the warning options we use, we can easily make this use
the positive sense of the option when checking for support for the
suppression option. This doesn't have any effect except that it avoids
gcc emitting extra messages about unrecognized command line options
when it is printing other warning messages.

Older glibc (RHEL 5.x, Debian 5.x) does not have the _sigev_un._tid
member in its structure definition, while the accompanying kernel
headers do define SIGEV_THREAD_ID. We need configure to check for
both before using it.

When building qemu-kvm for openSUSE:Factory, I am getting a
warning in the pipe2 detection performed by configure, which
prevents using --enable-werror.

Disable clang's initializer-overrides warnings, as QEMU makes significant
use of the pattern of initializing an array with a range-based default
entry like
[0 ... 0x1ff] = { GPIO_NONE, 0 }
followed by specific entries which override that default, and clang
would otherwise warn "initializer overrides prior initialization of
this subobject" when it encountered the specific entry.

commit 38f419f352 fixed a breakage with CONFIG_QEMU_HELPERDIR
which has been introduced by 8bf188aa18. But while techinically
that fix has been correct, all other similar variables are handled
differently. Make it consistent, and let scripts/create_config
expand and capitalize the variable properly like for all other
qemu_*dir variables.

All TCG hosts now support guest-base functionality, so we can

With the next qemu version (1.3) we are going to bump the qxl device
revision to 4. The new features available require a recent spice-server
version, so raise up the bar. Otherwise we would end up with different
qxl revisions depending on the spice-server version installed, which
would be a major PITA when it comes to compat properties.
Clear out a big bunch of #ifdefs which are not needed any more.

Specifying an empty target list with --target-list= is shorter
than specifying --disable-user --disable-system.
Both variants should give the same result: no targets at all.
This modification implements that feature.
It uses a trick which works with POSIX compliant shells to test whether
target_list is undefined (=> default targets) or empty (=> no targets).

The hassle and compile time overhead of maintaining both 32-bit and 64-bit
capable source isn't worth the tiny performance advantage which is seen on
a minority of configurations. Switch to compiling libhw only once, with
target_phys_addr_t unconditionally typedefed to uint64_t.

The usbredir 0.5 release introduced the new API for 64 bit packet ids, but
it kept the libusbredirparser.pc name as is, meaning that older versions of
qemu will still have their pkg-config check for usbredirparser fulfilled,
and build with the usb-redir device. Due to the API change there will be
some compiler warnings, but the build will succeed, however the usb-redir
device will be broken on 32 bit machines.
To solve this a new usbredir-0.5.2 release is coming, which renames the
libusbredirparser.pc file to libusbredirparser-0.5.pc, so that it will no
longer fulfill the pkg-config check of the qemu-1.2 and older releases,
stopping the (silent) breakage. This patch adjusts qemu master's configure
to properly detect the new usbredir release.

The old code aborted configure when no emulation target was selected.
Even after removing the 'exit 1', it tried to read from STDIN
when QEMU was configured with
configure' '--disable-user' '--disable-system'

Fixes build against uClibc.
uClibc provides 2 versions of clock_gettime(), one with realtime
support and one without (this is so you can avoid linking in -lrt
unless actually needed). This means that the clock_gettime() don't
need -lrt. We still need it for timer_create() so we check for this
function in addition.
We also need check if -lm is needed for isnan().
Both -lm and -lrt are needed for libs_qga.

Currently, if libseccomp is missing but the user explicitly requested
seccomp support using --enable-seccomp, configure silently ignores the
situation and disables seccomp support.
This is unlike all other tests that explicitly fail in such situation.
Fix that.

Until now we used only the agent to change the monitor count and each
monitor resolution. This patch introduces the qemu part of using the
device as the mediator instead of the agent via virtio-serial.
Spice (>=0.11.5) calls the new QXLInterface::client_monitors_config,
which returns wether the interrupt is enabled, and if so and given a non
NULL monitors config will
generate an interrupt QXL_INTERRUPT_CLIENT_MONITORS_CONFIG with crc
checksum for the guest to verify a second call hasn't interfered.
The maximal number of monitors is limited on the QXLRom to 64.

The qemu-img, qemu-nbd and qemu-io tools are built conditionally
based on whether any softmmu target is enabled. These are useful
self-contained tools which can be used in many other scenarios.
Add new --enable-tools/--disable-tools args to configure to allow
the user to explicitly turn on / off their build. The default
behaviour is now to build these tools are all times, regardless
of whether any softmmu target is enabled

Allow passing of '--target-list=' to configure to request that
all targets are to be disabled. This allows for doing a very
fast tools-only build of things like qemu-img, qemu-io, qemu-nbd.

Commit 7b93fadf3a "Add basic version
of bridge helper" put the bridge helper executable into a fixed
${prefix}/libexec/ location, instead of using ${libexecdir} for
this. At the same time, --libexecdir is being happily ignored
by ./configure. Even more, the same patch sets unused $libexecdir
variable in the generated config-host.mak, and uses fixed string
(\${prefix}/libexecdir) for the bridge helper binary.
Fix this braindamage by introducing $libexecdir variable, using
it for the bridge helper binary, and recognizing --libexecdir.
This patch is applicable to stable-1.1.

valgrind with kvm produces a big amount of false positives regarding
"Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)". This
happens because the guest memory is allocated with qemu_vmalloc which
boils down posix_memalign etc. This function is (correctly) considered
by valgrind as returning undefined memory.
Since valgrind is based on jitting code, it will not be able to see
changes made by the guest to guest memory if this is done by KVM_RUN,
thus keeping most of the guest memory undefined.
Now lots of places in qemu will then use guest memory to change behaviour.
To avoid the flood of these messages, lets declare the whole guest
memory as defined. This will reduce the noise and allows us to see real
problems.
In the future we might want to make this conditional, since there
is actually something that we can use those false positives for:
These messages will point to code that depends on guest memory, so
we can use these backtraces to actually make an audit that is focussed
only at those code places. For normal development we dont want to
see those messages, though.

Revision bumped to 4 for new IO support, enabled for spice-server >=
0.11.1. New io enabled if revision is 4. Revision can be set to 4.

This io calls the corresponding new spice api

MacOSX 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") requires us to compile our one
Objective-C source file with clang even if the rest of QEMU
requires a real gcc, because the system headers we use make
use of Apple's "Blocks" extension to C/ObjC, and mainline
gcc doesn't support that. Since we only need to use a true
gcc for the parts of QEMU that use the fixed-register
env variable, we can simply use clang to build the ObjC
file: it will link to the gcc-built objects with no problems.
Add the necessary support for an OBJCC variable in the
makefile and configure machinery; we default to clang
if we have it, otherwise whatever CC is (since gcc
might be the Apple gcc which does support Blocks).

MacOSX 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") defaults to trying to use automated
reference counting on certain objects. This means that the system
header files will use some Objective C syntax constructs even when
compiling pure C, which confuses mainline gcc. Suppress this by
setting OS_OBJECT_USE_OBJC=0. This avoids a compile error like this:

Both MacOS and Solaris have special case handling for the CPU
type, because the check_define probes will return i386 even if
the hardware is 64 bit and x86_64 would be preferable. Move
these checks earlier in the configure probing so that we can
do them only if the user didn't specify a CPU with --cpu. This
fixes a bug where the user's command line argument was being
ignored.

Since we moved pcspk into hwlib, CONFIG_PCSPK is no longer defined per
target. Therefore, statically built soundhw array in arch_init.c stopped
including this card.
Work around this by re-adding this define to config-target.mak.
Long-term, a dynamic creation of this soundhw list will be necessary.

In the old QMP days, this code was used to find out QMP commands that
might be calling monitor_printf() down its call chain.
This is almost impossible to happen today, because the qapi converted
commands don't even have a monitor object. Besides, it's been more than
a year since I used this last time.

Add support for checking whether test case code can compile without
warnings, by recompiling each successful test with -Werror. If the
-Werror version doesn't pass, we bail out. This gives us the same
level of visibility of warnings in test code as --enable-werror
provides for the main compile.

The code creating the symlink from linux-headers/asm to the
architecture specific linux-headers/asm-$arch directory was
implicitly hardcoding a list of KVM supporting architectures.
Add a default case for the common "Linux architecture name and
QEMU CPU name match" case, so future architectures will only
need to add code if they've managed to get mismatched names.

The Xen compile checks are currently run inside subshells. This
is unnecessary and has the effect that if do_cc() exits with
an error message then this only causes the subshell to exit,
not the whole of configure, which is confusing. Remove the
subshells, changing:

to
if cat && compile_prog ; then ...

The xs.h header is now deprecated and produces a warning. This prevents the
configure script from enabling Xen with xen-unstable whom will become 4.2. As
this header is not anymore common to every version of Xen, we just remove it
from the early probe for Xen.

If the smartcard configure check passes, add '-I\$(SRC_PATH)/libcacard'
to QEMU_INCLUDES, not QEMU_CFLAGS. Otherwise the unexpanded SRC_PATH
will cause a warning in every following configure test.

The distinction between QEMU_CFLAGS and CFLAGS is that the
former is for flags without which QEMU can't compile, whereas
the latter is for flags like "-g -O2" which the user can
safely override. "-march=i486" is in the former category, and
so belongs in QEMU_CFLAGS.

"+=" does not work with dash and other simple /bin/sh implementations.
The new code prepends the flag while the old code either did not work
(it continued after an error message which typically was not read) or
appended the flag. That difference should not matter here.

Don't run configure tests with -Werror in the compiler flags. The idea
of -Werror is that it makes problems very obvious to developers, so
they get fixed quickly. However, when running configure tests, failures
due to -Werror are far from obvious -- they simply result in the test
quietly failing when it should have passed. Not using -Werror is in
line with recommended practice in the Autoconf world.
This commit is essentially backing out the changes in commit 417c9d72.
Instead we fix the problem that commit was trying to address in a
different way: we add -Werror only for the test of the nss headers,
with a comment that this is specifically intended to detect a bug
in some releases of nss.
We also have to clean up a bug in the smartcard test where it was
trying to include smartcard_cflags in the test compile flags: this
would always result in a failure with -Werror, because they include
an escaped "$(SRC_PATH)" which is only valid when used in the final
makefile.

Split the configure test that checks for valgrind into two, one
part checking whether we have the gcc pragma to disable unused-but-set
variables, and the other part checking for the existence of valgrind.h.
The first of these has to be compiled with -Werror and the second
does not and shouldn't generate any warnings.
This (a) allows us to enable "make errors in configure tests be
build failures" and (b) enables use of valgrind on systems with
a gcc which doesn't know about -Wunused-but-set-varibale, like
Debian squeeze.

We want all configure tests pass with -Werror if it is enabled. So we
need to update QEMU_CFLAGS early on to make sure we also pass it in to
all the compile test jobs.

Make target_phys_addr_t 64 bits for ARM targets, and set
TARGET_PHYS_ADDR_SPACE_BITS to 40. This should have no effect for ARM
boards where physical addresses really are 32 bits (except perhaps a
slight performance hit on 32 bit hosts for system emulation) but allows
us to implement the Large Physical Address Extensions for Cortex-A15,
which mean 40 bit physical addresses.

QEMU now has a fundamental requirement for pthreads, so there
is no compelling reason to retain support for the non-threaded
VNC server. Remove the --{enable,disable}-vnc-thread configure
arguments, and all CONFIG_VNC_THREAD conditionals

After this patch, the libhw* directories will have a hierarchy
that mimics the source tree. This is useful because we do have
a couple of files there that are in the top source directory.

This patch starts converting the hw/ directory. Some files in hw/
are compiled once, some twice (32-/64-bit), some once per target.
Each category is moved in a separate patch.
After this patch, the files that are compiled once will show the
same hierarchy in the build tree as they do in the source tree,
for example hw/qdev.o instead of just qdev.o.

Walk cpu's page table and collect all virtual address and physical address mapping.
Then, add these mapping into memory mapping list. If the guest does not use paging,
it will do nothing. Note: the I/O memory will be skipped.

Update the configure test for libiscsi support to detect version 1.3
or later. Version 1.3 of libiscsi provides both READCAPACITY16 as well
as UNMAP commands.
Update the iscsi block layer to use READCAPACITY16 to detect the size of
the LUN instead of READCAPACITY10. This allows support for LUNs larger
than 2TB.
Update to implement bdrv_aio_discard() using the UNMAP command.
This allows us to use thin-provisioned LUNs from TGTD and other iSCSI
targets that support thin-provisioning.

Requiring spice-server >= 0.8.2 is not enough since spice-server.pc
doesn't require spice-protocol (any version). Until that is fixed
upstream an explicit requirement in qemu fixes compilation broken since
commit 2e1a98c9c1

The MinGW toolchain on w32/w64 hosts does not create symbolic links,
but implements 'ln -s' similar to 'cp -r'.
In incremental out of tree builds, this resulted in files which
were not updated when their counterparts in the QEMU source tree
changed. Especially for Makefile* this happened very often.
With this patch, the 'symlinked' files are now always updated for
out of tree builds. Similar code was already used for the symbolic
link of libcacard/Makefile.
The symlink macro always removes the target before it is created
again, therefore the rm command for libcacard/Makefile was redundant
and is removed now.
Macro symlink is also used with directories. To remove them on w32
hosts, a recursive rm is needed.
v2:
Quote arguments in shell function symlink, and also quote any argument
which is passed to symlink and which contains macros. This should reduce
the chance of accidents caused by rm -rf.

It's been orphaned, not compiling for a long time and despite Apple's
drop of their Rosetta ppc emulation technology with Mac OS X Lion no one
has stepped up to fix it.
Testing necessary changes wrt QOM'ification thus is impossible, so we
might as well remove it completely.

When SDL support is disabled, there is no way to build QEMU without
Cocoa support on MacOS X. This patch adds '--disable-cocoa' switch and
allows to build QEMU without both SDL and Cocoa frontends.

Autoconf uses --datadir for the /usr/share directory, not the
program-specific subdirectory inside /usr/share. This changes configure
to match autoconf behavior.
Note that this will break compatibility with existing build scripts.
